A review of The Coconut Tree, Cardiff

My meal was free in exchange for a review

Today I had the pleasure of visiting The Coconut Tree and I was not disappointed.

We walked in and the atmosphere was incredible. The decor was just totally my kind of vibe and the graffiti on the outside wall was ‘insta worthy.’ It is the perfect setting for a relaxing family meal on a Sunday or for a tapas style date night & cocktails with your girls.

So, let’s get onto the important part: the food. I have to say that was a tasty delight.

The waitress recommended that we order 2 - 3 tapas style dishes per person and paired it up with roti (bit like a flat bread) and rice. I chose the Pumpkin in Coconut Sauce, Red Lentil Dhal & Vegetable Spring Rolls. My sister chose the Hot Battered Cuttlefish & the Squid & Prawn Curry. ( I must warn you that the Dhal is very, very spicy). My sister ate her sea food up faster than I could ask for a taste & I can’t pretend like I haven’t talked about Pumpkin more than a kid at Halloween. I also can’t get over how delicious the Egg Hooper was. I mean it just an egg, a pancake and some relishes but bring them together and your taste buds go wild.

The food arrived fresh & hot which is always a plus. The waitress was attentive and when our Vegetable Rolls took a little longer than the rest of the meal she kindly gave us some complimentary Jackfruit Cutlets.

There was so much more on the menu that I wanted to try. From Pineapple Curry, to the Cheesy Combo and of course the cocktail menu. So I will definitely be back in the future after reviewing today.

I would add a note to say if you have a small appetite I think that ordering a curry style tapas dish & some rice may be enough. I honestly left with a warm and full tummy. Luckily, it was that warm feeling from eating well cooked, not too greasy food.

I also have to add that while I looked at the menu I noticed that children under 10 eat free. I think this is a wonderful way to introduce children to a new cuisine without breaking the bank.

Thank you for reading.
